A major accident was narrowly avoided at Bamanhat railway station in Dinhata, Cooch Behar, on Tuesday morning when an engine collided with the back of a standing local train. Six passengers, including two children, were injured in the crash. One coach of the train sustained significant damage. The accident occurred around 7 AM, causing panic among passengers and locals.
According to reports, the incident occurred while the Siliguri-bound 15468 Siliguri Intercity Express engine was being changed at Bamanhat station. During this process, the engine suddenly moved in the wrong direction and collided with a local train that was already stationed. The impact severely damaged the first coach of the local train, injuring several onboard passengers.
The injured individuals were immediately rescued by railway police and taken to the Bamanhat Block Primary Health Center for medical treatment. Fortunately, there were no fatalities, but the injuries caused significant distress. Authorities are closely monitoring the condition of the injured passengers.
